    7 Intelligent Dog Breeds You (probably) Haven’t Heard Of

    Everyone knows that the Border Collie Reigns supreme on the intelligence list, and the very famous Poodles come in second, but there are so many other intelligent dogs that you might not have heard of. Here are seven intelligent dog breeds you probably haven’t heard of.

    Many of the most intelligent dog breeds were bred as shepherd farm or hunting dogs. It takes a lot of intelligence to herd animals and hunt. People would masstamilan take the smartest of two liters and breed them to get the smartest they can to complete the job they need.

    1. Hovawart

    The Hovawart is a very majestic-looking dog. They are brilliant and were bred to be working dogs. They would protect their property and family. Hovawarts are also excellent rescue and retriever dogs. Hovawarts were mainly known as “Yard-watchers” or “Farm-watchers” because they would scare anything off the property that wasn’t familiar to them.

    2. Australian Cattle Dog

    Australian Cattle Dogs are a little more common than the Hovawart. Australian Cattle Dogs are bred to herd sheep and cattle. They can do very well with kids, but they do much better if raised with them. These dogs also need a lot of socialization while they are still puppies. Unlike the Australian Shepherds, Australian Cattle Dogs are actually from Australia.

    3. Shetland Sheepdog

    The Shetland Sheepdog or Shelties is another Cattle dog. These dogs are very intelligent and are great with kids. Shelties and Collies are very similar and related to the brilliant Border Collie. Shetland Sheepdogs used to be referred to as Shetland Collies, but their name was changed because they would confuse the two. The Sheltie was first introduced in Scotland as the Dwarf Scotch Shepherd.

    4. Keeshond

    Keeshonds are a little smaller than other guard dogs being a medium-sized dogs. They have a two-layer coat with a thick undercoat and a long top coat. These dogs are bred to be guard dogs and companions. They don’t do many big jobs, but they can be intimidating when they need to be. These dogs are intelligent and can tell when there is a threat, even if that threat is concealed. These dogs were also kept on dutch vessels to keep the crew company.

    5. Karelian Bear Dog

    The Karelian Bear Dog breed is a Finnish dog bred to keep bears away. They intimidate the bears by being loud and chasing them off their territory. These dogs are also bred to hunt large animals such as moose, deer, and even small bears. Karelian Bear Dogs have a fearless nature and quick reflexes.

    6. Stabyhoun

    Stabyhoun is bred for multi-purpose jobs and is very intelligent and even-tempered. They are very beautiful dogs with black and white prints and spots. They are very playful and great with kids. These highly intelligent dogs are known as national treasures in their native land. Stabyhoun is originally from the Netherlands and is a great companion.

    7. Bernedoodles

    Bernedoodles are very smart and compassionate and love the company of their owner. These dogs weren’t necessarily bred for any specific job other than to be companions and friends to others. Bernedoodles have a very high drive to please. This makes it a lot easier to train them and teach them tricks.     There are a lot of different dog breeds, and a lot of them are very intelligent. Many dogs are bred for specific jobs, and their intelligence is based on the job they are meant to perform. All of these dogs are excellent choices for companions and will give you all the love of a furry friend.
